From Play to Purpose: Seeing God at Work in Toronto
This past season, we had the privilege of running a children’s sports club at a local church in the Toronto area and what God did in just ten weeks exceeded all our expectations.
Each week, nearly 70 children gathered to play, learn, and grow together. Most of these kids came directly from the surrounding community, making the sports club a powerful bridge between the church and local families. Through a variety of sports and activities, the children not only developed skills and confidence but also learned about Coach Jesus and the love He has for them.
One of the greatest joys of the season was watching children respond to the gospel. As their excitement grew, many began inviting their families to attend church with them, an incredible reminder of how God uses simple, relational spaces to draw hearts to Himself.
While we anticipated impact among the children, God surprised us with something even more profound. By the end of the season, six youth leaders experienced remarkable transformation. What began with timid observers quickly became confident, passionate leaders. These youth stepped up to lead Bible lessons, organize games, and most powerfully—share their personal testimonies with the children. Through intentional encouragement and principles rooted in youth leadership development within the sports movement, we witnessed rapid growth in their confidence, faith, and leadership.
As we look ahead, we’re excited to return next year in a new capacity supporting and cheering on these youth as they continue to lead. This experience has reinforced a powerful truth: young people are eager to grow as leaders, and sport provides a unique and effective environment for that growth to flourish.
God is at work, and we are grateful to be part of it.
Praise God!
